Couple Marks 40th Year
Curtis “Al” and Rita Niehaus Bowers of Benwood are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary today, Feb. 24.
They were united in marriage Feb. 24, 1968 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Wheeling, with the Rev. Perry officiating.
Rita Bowers is the daughter of Alberta Niehaus of Wheeling and the late Vincent Niehaus. She is a graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School and is retired from Verizon after 35 years of service. She was a phone operator originally.
Bowers is the son of the late Jesse “Eleanor” Bowers and the late Kurt Anderson. He is a graduate of Union High School and is retired from Sears. He worked various jobs throughout his career, including union painting, insurance sales and appliance sales.
They participate in activities at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Mount Olivet. They enjoy traveling and have visited the Caribbean Sea region, Alaska, Florida and Arizona. They are avid fans of the West Virginia University Mountaineers.
They have three children. The family includes Erin Bowers of Wheeling; Jeffrey and his wife, Pam, of Shadyside and Lisa Bowers Wendt and her husband, Rich, of Moundsville. They have four grandchildren.
Their children are holding an open house to celebrate the occasion. Family and friends are invited to attend the open house at First Church of God, Garvin’s Lane, from 2-4 p.m. today, Feb. 24. They request no gifts.
