Schunns Mark 64 Years

Arthur and Lois Schunn of Martins Ferry celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary Wednesday, July 11.

They were united in marriage July 11, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Martins Ferry, with the late Rev. Paul W.O. Heist officiating.

Lois Schunn is the daughter of the late Charles and Idella Shurtz. She was employed with the U.S. Maritime Service in Washington, D.C., during World War II. She worked at the former Security Trust Co. of Wheeling and was secretary for 15 years for Heist, the pastor who officiated the wedding ceremony. She also served as a volunteer at the surgical waiting room desk at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry for 24 years.

Schunn is the son of the late Mathias and Anna Schunn. He served in World War II as an aviation ordinance second class in the Navy. He retired in 1983 from the former Blaw Knox and Machinery Corp., Wheeling plant, after working for 33 years as a welder. He also was employed as sexton of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Martins Ferry for 17 years.

They are currently members of Edgwood Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wheeling. Both are graduates of Martins Ferry High School.

They are the parents of two daughters. The family includes Arleen and her husband, the Rev. Robert Hawk, of Greensburg, Pa., and Anita Schunn of Martins Ferry.

An after-church reception was held at Edgwood Lutheran Church Sunday, July 15, to celebrate their 64th anniversary and his 89th birthday which was Wednesday, July 25.
