Gotards Celebrate 50th

Charles “Butch” and Joyce DiProsperis Gotard of Middletown, Md., formerly of Wheeling, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Oct. 20.

They were united in marriage Oct. 20, 1962 at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Wheeling, by the Rev. Joseph Wanstreet.

Joyce Gotard is the daughter of the late Elmer and Ann DiProsperis. She is a 1958 graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy. Upon leaving Wheeling, she was employed as a secretary in Washington, D.C. She also was employed with the Carroll County (Md.) Library. She belonged to Tau Gamma sorority.

Gotard is the son of the late Charles and Mary Gotard. He is a 1957 graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School, a graduate of American University in Washington, D.C., and a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. He is an Army veteran and is retired from the Secret Service Uniformed Division.

They are members of Holy Family Catholic Church, Middletown.

They have three children. The family includes Michael of Bethesda, Md.; James and his wife, Kimberly, of Damascus, Md., and Susan Gotard of Germantown, Md. They have four grandchildren.

They will celebrate their anniversary while cruising the Mediterranean Sea, with a special visit to Naples, Italy, the birthplace of Joyce Gotard’s grandparents.
