Couple Marks 50 Years

Marlene and Jim Everson of Naples, Fla. and St. Clairsville celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 17.

They were united in marriage on Aug. 17, 1963 at the Roney’s Point Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Gray officiating.

Everson is the daughter of the late Lloyd and Nellie Roberts. She is a graduate of Triadelphia High School, completed her training as a registered nurse at Ohio Valley General Hospital and retired from Wheeling Clinic after taking time to rear her family.

Everson is the son of the late Wendell E. and P. Katherine Everson. He is a graduate of Martins Ferry High School, The Ohio State University and spent a 54-year banking career with the Citizens Savings Bank of Martins Ferry, retiring as its president and CEO in 2004. He is chairman of the bank and chairman and CEO of its holding company, United Bancorp Inc.

They are the parents of four children and 11 grandchildren. The family includes Dr. Dana K. (Thomas) Brendza of Twinsburg, Ohio; James Jr. (Bethany) Everson of Powell, Ohio; Scott A. (Katie) Everson of St. Clairsville; and, Todd M. (Julie) Everson of Rocky River, Ohio.

They celebrated their anniversary with a family reception and dinner at the Atwood Lake Resort and Golf Club.

Couple Marks 50 Years

Larry and Jeanette Akers of Wheeling celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Aug. 3.

The were united in marriage Aug. 3, 1963 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wheeling, with the late Rudolph Bischoff officiating the ceremony.

Jeanette Akers is the daughter of the late John and Jeanette Marshlenski. She is a graduate of Wheeling High School. She worked in the office of Bloch Brothers Tobacco Co.

Akers is the son of the late Melvin “Doc” and Ruth Akers. He is a graduate of Martins Ferry High School and is a four-year veteran of the Marine Corps. He retired as manager of Moore’s Lumber Co. and the Wheeling Job Service as a disabled veterans’ representative.

They are the parents of a son. The family includes Brian and his wife, Venus. They have five grandchildren.
