Couple Marks 50 Years

Douglas and Freda McCroskey of Wheeling celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 12. They were united in marriage Dec. 12, 1963 at Second Presbyterian Church in Wheeling with the Rev. George W. Day performing the ceremony.

Freda Ann McCroskey is the daughter of the late Robert L. Nash and the late Elizabeth F. (Lawrence) Nash of Triadelphia. She attended Triadelphia High School. She was formerly employed by Peterson Hospital and is retired from the Ohio Valley Medical Center.

Douglas W. McCroskey Sr. is the son of the late Walter O. McCroskey and Wilma (Clemens) McCroskey. He attended Wheeling High School and served in the U.S. Army. He was formerly employed by Valley Camp Coal Co., the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department, Ohio County Animal Control and the U.S. Marshal Service. He most recently retired from his position as security officer at the Ohio County Magistrate Court.

The couple has six children. The family includes Barbara and husband William Moulton of Wheeling; Douglas McCroskey Jr. and wife Ellen of Wheeling; Kimberly and husband Melvin Roth Jr. of Martins Ferry and Dawn McCroskey of Wheeling. They also are the parents of Russell Lee and Penny Sue, who are deceased.

They have 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The couple celebrated their golden anniversary with their children and grandchildren at a family dinner on Dec. 7.
