Karrases Mark Golden
Alia and John Karras of Wheeling and Manasota Key, Fla., will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday.
They were united in marriage Feb. 17, 1968, at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church in Wheeling by the Rev. Thomas G. Ninnis.
Alia Karras is the daughter of the late Jean and John S. Barre. She attended Triadelphia High School and graduated from Marion High School in Marion, Ind., and the Patricia Stevens Career College. She worked as a television continuity director in Indiana. After moving to Wheeling, she worked as a decorating consultant for various furniture companies in the area.
John Karras is the son of the late Betty and Michael N. Karras of Wheeling. He is a graduate of Linsly Military Institute and West Virginia University. He served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, having completed paratrooper training and various infantry and Army intelligence schools. He served in the West Virginia House of Delegates and West Virginia Senate and retired as president of Karras Painting Co. of Wheeling.
They are the parents of Christopher (Brandy) Karras of Wheeling and Kimberly (Brad) Kunz of Des Moines, Iowa. They have one grandson.
They will celebrate with family and friends in Florida and are planning an anniversary trip to the South Pacific later this year.
