A photograph taken by another former Wellsburg resident, Gary Gorby, is featured in the Episcopal Church Visual Arts’ Advent exhibition, “Imaging the Sacred Art of Chant.”

Gorby’s digital photograph is titled “Serenity 1.” The artwork can be viewed online at

In his artist’s statement, Gorby explained, “As I created this image, I recalled the mantra, ‘Om Tara Tuttare Ture Soha,” chanted by Nada Shakti on the CD, ‘Jivamukti’ (Shining Star Productions, 1994). This chant honors the feminine aspect of God.”

The photographic artist commented, “The ancient Sanskrit and soothing melodies open the heart to receive the feminine trait of wisdom. The centering light in the photograph symbolizes receiving the love and peace of God’s presence in the meditator’s life.”

Gorby, a former teacher at Brooke High School, now resides in Burlington, N.C. The former member of Christ Episcopal Church in Wellsburg now belongs to Church of the Holy Comforter in Burlington.
