Caroline Chase Spencer, a 2010 Linsly School graduate and daughter of Sharon and Harald Wiesner and Tom and Cathie Spencer, graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., with a Bachelor of Science degree in behavioral science and with the rank of second lieutenant.
She is starting her first post at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, La., this month.
A.J. Ciechomski, a 2010 Linsly graduate and son of Terry and Stacy Ciechomski of St. Clairsville, graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.
His first assignment will be at Hurlburt Field in Florida.
Juliana E. Myers of Wheeling, Hannah L. Megna of Wheeling and Casey A. Wiltshire of Adena were named to the dean’s list at Waynesburg (Pa.) University for the spring term.
Myers, a senior, completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in biblical and ministry studies (children and youth). She is a graduate of Steubenville High School.
Megna is a sophomore, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in English (creative writing). She is a graduate of Wheeling Park High School.
Wiltshire is a junior and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in finance.
Wiltshire is a graduate of Buckeye Local High School.
Zach Greathouse, a 2014 Wheeling Jesuit University graduate with a Master of Science in Nursing degree, will spend the next year in Africa as a nursing faculty member in Malawi teaching students working toward a bachelor’s degree. Greathouse departed July 17 for Mzuzu University, located in the southeast part of the country.
Greathouse is participating in a program called the Global Health Service Partnership. It is a collaboration between the Peace Corps, Seed Global Health and the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.
Maria Elizabeth Miller, daughter of Todd and Patti Miller of Wheeling, graduated summa cum laude from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master of Arts degree in education from the Benedum Collaborative teacher education program. She is a 2009 graduate of Linsly School.
At WVU, she was an active member of Sigma Kappa social sorority and held multiple positions of leadership. She was the social chair of WVU Helvetia honorary society and the community service chair of Chimes honorary society. She was the founding president of the NCTE Mountaineers, a nationally affiliated professional development organization for pre-service English educators at WVU.
Miller was selected as a member of the WVU Foundation’s outstanding seniors. Her goal is to stay in West Virginia and teach English at the secondary level.

Marissa Rea of Mingo Junction was selected for membership in Order of Omega, Greek national honorary society. Rea is a junior at Youngstown State University, majoring in dental hygiene and is a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority (Phi Lambda).
Claudia Adele Palmer of Bethlehem made the president’s list, earning a 4.0 grade-point average for the fall semester, at the Honors College at West Virginia University. She is a freshman, a public relations major and a member of Alpha Phi. Palmer is a 2013 graduate of Linsly School. She was awarded six scholarships.
Heather Stevey of Fairmont, formerly of Powhatan Point, achieved the dean’s list for the January term from Colorado Tech University. She is a first-year student for the online classroom and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in health care management.
Stevey is a 1989 graduate of River High School. She is employed by AMBS billing in Fairmont.
Daniel Lee Barker, a freshman athletic training major from McMechen, was named to the dean’s list at Wheeling Jesuit University.
He is a 2013 graduate of John Marshall High School and is the son of Diane Barker of McMechen and Rick Barker of Glen Dale.
Business student Ashlee Henry of Powhatan Point received a departmental award at Glenville State College. She also was named to the provost’s honor roll for the fall semester. She is pursuing a major in accounting and management.
Blas Alexander Gabbert, a senior anthropology major from Wheeling, and Emily Rose Palma, a senior agricultural biotechnology major from Weirton, were named to the dean’s list at the University of Kentucky in Lexington for the spring semester.
West Liberty University music students who performed in the Mid-Atlantic Flute Fair in Reston, Va., included junior Ian Beabout of Valley Grove and senior Sarah Millick of Bloomingdale.
James McMahon of Belmont and Jason Garczyk of St. Clairsville were initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, a national collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines, at Ohio University.
West Liberty University students Timothi Williams and Leanne Mazzella, both of Wellsburg, earned awards during the Alpha Chi national convention in St. Louis, Mo.
Williams received the Johnny and Frances Williams presentation prize in the performing arts category for her performance titled “Loewe and Schumann – Contemporaries in Comparison: Frauenliebe und leben.” Mazzella received the regional scholarship for undergraduate research for her research on insects.
