Wheeling Artists’ Work in Parkersburg Show
Three Wheeling area artists have work accepted in a new juried art exhibit at the Parkersburg Art Center in Parkersburg.
The biennial exhibit, titled “The River,” is a showcase for the work of professional artists from West Virginia and Ohio.
Abby Hayhurst, art center executive director, said 79 artists submitted a total of 198 works, and 107 pieces by 60 artists were chosen for inclusion into the exhibit.
The all-media exhibit is on display at the Art Center now through Saturday, Aug. 9. It features works by Cecy Rose of Benwood and Ted and Carla Kutzlo of Wheeling.
Jurors for the exhibit were Marilyn Hughey Phillis of St. Clairsville and Gary Pettigrew of Athens, Ohio.
Phillis is an internationally-known art educator and is the author of several books about watercolor painting. Pettigrew is a retired professor of art from Ohio University and an award-winning painter.
The jurors chose 12 artists to receive awards, including a $1,000 best in show. Prizes were awarded at the exhibit’s opening Sunday, July 6.
The Art Center, located at Eighth and Market Streets in downtown Parkersburg, is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, with a daily admission charge.
