Lunch With Books

Pittsburgh author Chris Rodell will be at Lunch With Books at the Ohio County Public Library52 16th St., Wheeling, at noon Tuesday to talk of his new novel, “The Last Baby Boomer: The Story of the Ultimate Ghoul Pool.”

Lunch With Books programs are free and open to the public. Attendees may bring a bag lunch; complimentary beverages are provided.

NAMI

NAMI of Greater Wheeling will meet at Ohio Valley Medical Center’s OVerlook Cafeteria, conference room B, 2000 Eoff St., Wheeling, at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Baked Steak Dinner

Warwood United Methodist Church, 1438 Warwood Ave., Wheeling, will hold a baked steak dinner from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Take-out orders are available without beverage. The dinner will be followed by a Toe-Tappin’ Tuesday concert in Garden Park. This week’s band will be Crazy Horse. For more information, call 304-277-3332.

Preservation Alliance

The South Wheeling Preservation Alliance will meet at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3536 Eoff St., Wheeling, at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Donna Freter, an avid collector of Wheeling Potteries’ flow blue products, will give a presentation with more than 100 photos of the wares. The South Wheeling company was started by entrepreneur George K. Wheat. The pottery was in business from 1879-1908.

The South Wheeling Neighborhood Watch will meet at Trinity Lutheran Church from 6:30-7 p.m. Tuesday.

Family Program

Daniel Caron will present a family-friendly program, “Backyard Adventures,” at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library, 700 Fifth St., at 6 p.m. Wednesday. He will encourage children and parents to get outdoors. The event is free and open to the public.

Caron, an award-winning nature photographer and public speaker, will share some of his photographs and discuss       activities to inspire     wonder, creativity and imagination.

Summer Reading

Robert Strong of SMART Centre Market, Wheeling, will offer a program on “Loco-Motion Science” at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library, 700 Fifth St., at 11 a.m. Thursday and at the Benwood-McMechen Library, 201 Marshall St., McMechen, at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Programs at the Cameron Public Library will be “Jump Into Reading” with Jeannie Blake at 1 p.m. Monday and “Exercise and Eating for Good Health” presented by Robin Richardson at 1  p.m. Tuesday.

Summer Reading

The St. Clairsville Public Library’s summer reading program features events and special performances for all ages. A book club for adults will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday to discuss “The Tilted World.”

A tie-dye workshop for teens will be offered at 4  p.m. Thursday. Children’s activities include events for preschoolers at 1 p.m. Wednesday and for elementary students at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Barbecue

The Barnesville Chamber of Commerce’s annual chicken barbecue will be held in the Mother’s Club at Barnesville Memorial Park starting at 11 a.m. Saturday. Tickets are on sale in the chamber office, 130 W. Main St., Barnesville. For more information, call 740-425-4300.

Relay for Life

Organizers of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Ohio County said Thursday is the deadline to turn in specified donations for T-shirts. For more information, call Brady Medovic, 304-280-1151.

Garden Club

The Wellsburg Garden Club will have spots on the Town Square from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday as part of a city-wide yard sale.

Church Picnic

Wolf Run Baptist Church’s annual picnic will be held at the church’s picnic area at 11 a.m. July 4. Each participant is asked to bring a covered dish and lawn chair.

Rail Trip

The Great Stone Viaduct Historical Society is presenting an all-day rail trip aboard Amtrak on Aug. 13. The group will depart from 32nd Street in Bellaire at 5:30 a.m. and travel by chartered bus to Pittsburgh, where the group will board Amtrak’s Pennsylvanian and travel to Altoona, Pa., arriving at 10 a.m. for a day of sightseeing and adventure.

While in Altoona, the group will tour the world-famous Horseshoe Curve which carries the Norfolk Southern mainline over the mountains of central Pennsylvania.

Included is a tour of the Altoona Railroader’s Museum.

The group will depart Altoona at 5 p.m. and arrive in Bellaire at approximately 10 p.m. by bus.
