YWCA Announces Project on Racism Contest

The YWCA Wheeling has announced the theme and deadline for the 2017 Project on Racism Essay Contest, also known as the Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest, a statewide contest open to students in grades 1-12 attending public, private, parochial or home school.

This year’s contest will be based on the following quote from the civil rights leader’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” written on April 16, 1963:

“Never again can we afford to live with the narrow, provincial ‘outside agitator’ idea. Anyone who lives inside the United States can never be considered an outsider…”

Students are invited to submit their entries on or before Oct. 21.

For information regarding essay submission guidelines and requirements, call Rita Gupta, 304-232-0511, or email her at cdcodirector@ywcawheeling.org.
