Wheeling Newcomers Club

The Wheeling Newcomers Club will hold a luncheon meeting at Belmont Hills Country Club, St. Clairsville, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The holiday program will feature a gift exchange for those who want to participate. A festive luncheon will be served after the program. Film Showing

The Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library, 700 Fifth St., will show the 2005 extended version of “The Outsiders,” rated PG-13, at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The film showing is free and open to all.

Lunch With Books

Naturalist Bill Beatty will appear at Lunch With Books at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at noon Tuesday to talk about his new book, “Rainbows, Bluebirds and Buffleheads.”

Lunch With Books programs are free and open to the public. Patrons may bring a bag lunch; complimentary beverages are provided.

People’s University

The People’s University course, “A History of Wheeling,” presented by Dr. David Javersak, will continue at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling. The session will examine “Wheeling’s Ethnic History.” The program is free and open to the public.

Civic League

The Civic League of Warwood will hold its Christmas dinner at River City Restaurant, 1400 Main St., Wheeling, at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. A gift exchange will take place.

Holiday Dinner-Dance

Family Service-Upper Ohio Valley’s holiday dinner-dance will be held at Wheeling Park’s White Palace Thursday. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., with Shades of Time playing for dancing from 7-10 p.m.

Christmas Sing-Along

An old-fashioned Christmas sing-along will take place at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library, 700 Fifth St., at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and at the Benwood-McMechen Public Library, 201 Marshall St., McMechen, at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13. Both events will feature music by Wesley Howsare and will last about an hour.

Santa Claus will make a special visit. These programs for all ages are free and open to the public, with holiday treats included. The events are co-sponsored by the Robert Baker family with candy canes and cookies provided by the Ladies League of Marshall County.

Woman’s Club

The Moundsville Woman’s Club will meet at Moundsville Country Club at 11:30 a.m. Friday. The Moundsville Middle School chorus, led by Kathy Fox, will present a program.

Elaine Lough will conduct the business meeting. Roberta Underdonk will be in charge of the program. Pat Nisperly, Carol Whipkey, Perky Blake, Sonnie Groft and Nancy Paulovicks will serve as hostesses.

Breakfast With Santa

The Bethany College Student Alumni Association will present a breakfast with Santa at Benedum Commons on campus from 9-11 a.m. Saturday. The event will include holiday stories, crafts and games.

Guests are asked to register before Thursday by calling 304-829-7411. Cash, check and credit card are accepted at the door. Tickets are priced for adults and children. Children age 4 and younger are admitted free.

Guests who bring a donation for the homeless will receive a discount on the ticket price and be entered in a drawing for a gift card. Donation items can include socks, gloves, warm hats and sample-size toiletries.

Story Hour

The Follansbee branch of the Brooke County Public Library will hold story hour for children, ages 2-5, and their caregivers from noon to 1 p.m. Monday and on Dec. 12 and Dec. 19. The events will include a story, craft, games and snack. To register, call the circulation desk, 304-527-0860.

After-School Movie

Book Talk

Author Rick Rechen will visit the Follansbee branch of the Brooke County Public Library from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday to talk about his novel, “Bearing New Life.” The program is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. To reserve a seat, call 304-527-0860.

Computer Help

Natalie Staffileno, an employee of the Brooke County Public Library, will offer computer help with resumes and online job applications at the Follansbee branch from 1-2 p.m. Saturday. Space is limited and registration is required. To register, call the circulation desk, 304-527-0860.

SAR-DAR

The Fort Henry chapter of Sons of the American Revolution and the Wheeling chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a joint holiday luncheon for members and guests at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 14 in the Fireplace Room, W. E. Stone Memorial Club House, Wheeling Park. Prospective members may attend. There is a fee for the luncheon. For more information, call 304-312-1787.

Blood Pressure Screening

Free blood pressure screenings, provided by Wheeling Hospital, will be offered at Howard Long Wellness Center from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Monday and Dec. 12, Dec. 19 and Dec. 26. For more information, call 304-242-9355.

Concert

Grove United Presbyterian Church, West Middletown, Pa., will present a Christmas concert at 6 p.m. next Sunday. The church’s handbell ensemble, chancel choir and the Junior Jinglers will perform. A sing-along of carols also will be offered. The choirs are directed by Wellsburg resident Mary Jean Bonar.

Live Nativity

Starkdale Presbyterian Church, 4600 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, will hold its sixth annual live nativity next Sunday. The presentation will be repeated at 30-minute intervals from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and each will be followed by a time of fellowship and refreshments.

Breastfeeding Class

A breastfeeding class for expectant parents will be held at Wheeling Hospital’s conference room D at 7 p.m. Dec. 12. There is a fee for the class. For more information, call 304-243-5058.

Blood Drive

A blood drive with Central Blood Bank will be held at Wheeling Hospital’s auditorium B from noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 12. To donate, participants must be 17 years old (or 16 with a signed parental consent). Donors should bring proper ID.
