‘Yes, Virginia,’ Continues At Towngate Theatre
The Oglebay Institute Towngate Theatre production of “Yes, Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus,” continues today at 3 p.m. and next weekend — 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. next Sunday.
The story follows a little girl named Virginia who is questioning whether Santa Claus is real after discovering her older sister and her best friend don’t believe. In a parallel story line, a young reporter for the New York Sun, Francis Church, is struggling to find his “writer’s voice” after his parents have moved out of the city. When he receives Virginia’s letter on Christmas eve, he drafts a response that assures her of Santa’s existence in the hearts and minds of those who believe. It has become a widely published newspaper editorial that appears every year in print around the world during the Christmas season.
