Folmar Marks Centennial

Clara Pearl Wilson Folmar will celebrate her 100th birthday on March 6.

She was born the third of seven children on March 6, 1917, to Earl and Margaret Wilson of Big Wheeling Creek. She married George P. Folmar, also of Big Wheeling Creek, now deceased, and they had two children: Christine (Chris) Bridgers of Cincinnati and Rene Folmar of Valley Grove. She has one granddaughter, who is deceased.

Folmar graduated from Triadelphia High School and attended West Liberty State College and West Virginia University before teaching in several one-room schools in the area. She went on to teach home economics in Powhatan Point and West Alexander High School, and she retired from McGuffey High School in Claysville.

She is a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and for many years enjoyed the homemakers’ meetings of both Ohio and Marshall counties. She taught many young people to cook and sew.

Formerly a Valley Grove resident, she lives at Welty Assisted Living in Wheeling.
