County Council

The Ohio County Community Educational Outreach Service Council will meet at Elm Grove United Methodist Church, 125 Kruger St., Wheeling, at 10 a.m. Monday. President Linda Wade will preside at a business meeting. Any representative who cannot attend is asked to send an alternate.

Civil War Roundtable

The Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable will meet at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at 6:30 p.m. Monday. John Hepburn will speak on McNeill’s Rangers. The group is planning a March 25 trip to the Soldiers and Sailors Museum in Pittsburgh; details will be shared at the meeting.

Ladies League

The Ladies League of Marshall County will meet in the commons of John Marshall High School at 7 p.m. Monday. West Virginia Poet Laureate Marc Harshman will be the guest speaker.

Hostesses for the evening will be Kim Angalich, Sheila Blackmore, Arica Holt, Nancy Marple, Ruth Mozingo, Mary Rose Robbins, Bethani Vilkoski, Dana Zambito, Peggy Neibergall and Linda Snodgrass. Numerous items concerning upcoming events are on the agenda. Members are reminded to bring Box Tops for Education, used printer cartridges, coupons for the Family Resource Network, aluminum pull tabs, dimes for a backpack ministry and baby items that will be donated to Wellspring.

Lunch With Books

Wilkes Kinney will be at Lunch With Books at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at noon Tuesday to discuss his research on the question of whether African American soldiers fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War.

Lunch With Books programs are free and open to the public. Patrons may bring a bag lunch; complimentary beverages are provided.

Lunch & Learn

The Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce is holding a Lunch & Learn education class on drug awareness in room 110 of the New Martinsville campus of West Virginia Northern Community College at noon Tuesday.

Presenter Carla McBee will discuss drug abuse in the area, signs of drug abuse and the process of drug testing for employees of businesses. McBee is store manager and trainer for CAM Safety in New Martinsville. In addition, she is the medical examiner for Wetzel and Tyler counties. She is retired from Wetzel County Emergency Medical Services after 22 years in the field as a paramedic.

Pancake Suppers

Trinity Episcopal Church will hold a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper in Neal Hall, adjacent to the church on Oak and Linden avenues, Moundsville, from 4:30-6:30 pm. Tuesday. Proceeds will benefit the church’s outreach programs.

The United Methodist Men of Warwood United Methodist Church, 1438 Warwood Ave., Wheeling, will hold a Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner from 4:30-6 p.m. A goodwill offering will be accepted.

St. Vincent de Paul School will hold a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper in St. Vincent’s Marist Center, Marshall Avenue, Wheeling, from 5-8 p.m. In addition, many home-baked goods will be available to purchase. All proceeds will benefit the school’s Adopt a Student program.

A Shrove Tuesday pancake supper will be served in the parish hall at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 1410 Chapline St., Wheeling, from 4:30-7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door. National Trail Stitchers

The National Trail Stitchers, Embroidery Guild of America, will hold a public “stitch-in” event at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Preservation Alliance

The South Wheeling Preservation Alliance will meet at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3536 Eoff St., Wheeling, at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. Guest speaker Kelsy Traeger Sinelnikov, curator for the Museums of Oglebay Institute, will present a program, “Little Known and Essential Facts About the Mansion Museum and Its Place in the Museum World.”

The South Wheeling Neighborhood Watch will meet at Trinity Lutheran Church from 6:30-7 p.m. Tuesday.

Spaghetti Dinner

Union Local High School’s symphonic band will hold a spaghetti dinner in the Union Local Middle School cafeteria from 5-5:45 p.m. Tuesday. A contest preview concert will begin at 6 p.m.

Lenten Fish Fry

Lenten fish fry events will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church, 710 Jefferson Ave., Glen Dale, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Ash Wednesday and every Friday through Lent. Take-out orders also will be available. Call 304-845-2646 for local delivery if ordered by 10 a.m. for lunch and by 3 p.m. for dinner.

Fish fry events will be held at Stone Church Volunteer Fire Department, 621 Stone Church Road, Wheeling, from 4-7 p.m. on Ash Wednesday and every Friday of Lent. Take-out orders also will be available.

Fish fry events will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church’s parish hall, 2111 Market St., Wheeling, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays during Lent. This is a collaborative effort between the parish communities of St. John’s, Benwood, and St. Alphonsus. Take-out orders also will be available.

St. Michael Catholic Church and School in Wheeling will hold fish fry events from 4-7 p.m. on Ash Wednesday and every Friday in Lent except Good Friday. Take-out orders also will be available.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ukrainian Catholic Church, 4136 Jacob St., Wheeling, will hold a fish fry event at the church annex from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every Friday during Lent, except Good Friday. For more information or to place orders, call 304-232-1777.

Comedy Show

A fundraiser for the Marshall County Childhood Cancer Awareness Group will be held Saturday at the Strand Theatre in Moundsville. The adult comedy show will feature four comedians from Pittsburgh. A social hour with wine and beer tasting will begin at 6:30 p.m. The show will start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at brownpapertickets.com or at the door. Lunch & Movie

Book Talk

The Brooke County Public Library, 945 Main St., Wellsburg, will hold a book talk and signing event with Wheeling author Christina Fisanick Greer at 5 p.m. Thursday. She will talk about her book, “The Optimistic Food Addict: Recovering from Binge Eating Disorder.”

Computer Help

The Follansbee branch of the Brooke County Public Library will offer computer help with resumes and online job applications from 1-2 p.m. Saturday. Penny Auction

A penny auction will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church’s parish center at 7 p.m. Saturday. Doors will be opened at 5:30 p.m. Prizes will be auctioned and food will be available for purchase.

Maple Syrup Class

Representatives of Family Roots Farm in Brooke County will present a maple syrup class at the Brooke County Historical Museum and Culture Center, Charles Street, Wellsburg, at 2 p.m. next Sunday. Starter kits and products from Family Roots Farm will be available for purchase after the class.

Admission to this event is free, with donations to the county museum accepted. Refreshments will be available. For more information, call the museum, 304-737-4060.

Retired School

Employees

The Brooke County Association of Retired School Employees will meet at Brooke Hills Park’s clubhouse March 14. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., prior to a business meeting. Brooke County commissioners will be guest speakers. All members must call Ruth Lewis at 304-737-2314 for lunch reservations by March 7.
