YWCA Youth Board to Hold Leadership Retreat

WHEELING — The YWCA Wheeling Youth Board is hosting a Leadership Challenge Retreat in December with a goal to offer free hands-on leadership training with interactive workshops to all high school girls in the Ohio Valley. There are spots available for 50 girls.

The leadership retreat will be held at the Kiwanis Fresh Air Farm in Triadelphia from Dec. 27-30.

The program will be full of challenging team and individual activities. There will be opportunities to socialize and network with other students as well as community leaders from throughout the Ohio Valley. Participants will also work on a variety of community service projects and can earn up to six service hours and eight service learning hours.

Topics that will be covered include leadership styles and traits, communication skills, goal setting, team building, conflict resolution, interviewing, resume development, risk taking, project planning, money management and much more.

The YWCA Wheeling’s Youth Board was created in 2016 with the assistance of the Women’s Giving Circle of the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley and under the tutelage of Laura Carter, who trained the board on Robert’s Rules of Order, how to run meetings, make motions and perform as an active contributing board of directors.

In November 2016, the efforts of the Youth Board were enhanced by a Comcast Foundation Grant.

In addition, the YWCA Wheeling Youth Board presented at the most recent Show of Hands in Wheeling and walked away with the biggest award in the event’s history. The monies won through that event will help pay for the leadership retreat materials.
