Jones to Give Senior Recital

Benjamin Jones of Wheeling will give his Senior Graduation Recital at First Presbyterian Church, 1307 Chapline St., Wheeling, at 3 p.m. next Sunday.

A few of the recital pieces he will be performing on piano are “Beauty in the Rose Garden,” “A Tin Solider’s Love” and “Alla Tarantella” by Edward MacDowell; Prelude Op. 28 No. 3 & No. 4 by Frederic Chopin; and the Fughetta by J.S. Bach. On organ, he will perform “Reverie” by Claude Debussy; Prelude in Classic Style by Gordon Young; and Toccata et Fuga by J.S. Bach. There also will be a few surprises and personal favorites.

Jones, son of Darrin and Julie Jones of Wheeling, has studied piano for 10 years and organ for seven years. He began his study of piano with Stacey Soos of St. Clairsville, then he studied with Linda West-Benyo in Wheeling. He is instructed by Dr. Millard Neal of Barnesville, in both piano and organ.

Jones has performed for the Thursday Music Club of Wheeling program in March 2016, the Thursday Music Club Auditions receiving Superior + Honors ratings, West Liberty University Solo and Ensemble receiving Honors ratings, and he sang with Millard Neal and the Holiday Choristers.

He has played for local area churches since 2014 as an organist during worship services and as a guest pianist for special music, weddings and funerals.

He is a 2018 graduate of Wheeling Park High School. Jones will attend West Liberty University where he will double major in business-accounting and finance.
