Lunch With Books
Lunch With Books will feature a Wheeling Memories Nostalgia Series program at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at noon Tuesday.
Area residents are invited to share memories of Wheeling during World War II. Dr. David Javersak will lead the conversation about local men and women who served in the war, local businesses that manufactured materials for the war effort and the employees who made it happen, and what Wheeling in general was like during the 1940s.
Lunch With Books programs are free and open to the public. Attendees may bring a bag lunch; complimentary beverages are provided.
Parent Support Group
A parent support group will meet in the OVerlook Cafeteria’s conference room A at Ohio Valley Medical Center, 2000 Eoff St., Wheeling, from 6-7 p.m. Monday. The group is for parents and guardians of children and adolescents who are experiencing mental or behavioral health issues or substance abuse concerns. Moundsville High School Class of 1958 is having a luncheon at the Guest House in Moundsville at 1 p.m. Thursday.
The Newview Community Educational Outreach Service Club will meet at the Hancock County Senior Center, Gas Valley Road, New Cumberland, at 11 a.m. Thursday. The lesson will be “Native Americans in West Virginia.”
The Wheeling Area Genealogical Society will meet in the auditorium at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The genealogical society is sponsoring a monthly lecture series, Silent Cities of the Dead, which focuses on cemeteries in the Wheeling area. For Saturday’s program, Mount Zion Cemetery Association member Steven Davis will give a presentation on Mount Zion Cemetery. Programs are free and open to the public.
Sunshine Social Club
The Sunshine Friday Social Club will hold its 42nd anniversary dinner at Ye Olde Alpha, 50 Carmel Road, Wheeling, from 5-7 p.m. June 16. Rummage, Bake Sale
Christ United Methodist Church, Washington Avenue, Wheeling, will hold a rummage and bake sale from 4-7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Proceeds will be used for mission projects.
Sons of American
The Fort Henry chapter of Sons of the American Revolution will meet in the auditorium at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Speaker David P. Ervin will present a program, “A Choice Body of Men: The Continental Army on the Upper Ohio Frontier, 1775-1783.” A native West Virginian, Ervin served in the Army infantry and participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has a bachelor’s degree in early American history from West Virginia University. He is the author of “Leaving the Wire: An Infantryman’s Iraq” and numerous articles and essays. An editor and historical interpreter, he lives in Morgantown.
