Area Students to Perform At Third Friday Event
WHEELING — Artworks Around Town, 2200 Market St., will present an evening of holiday music for this month’s Third Friday program.
Two local schools will be featured Friday in a festive offering of some of the area’s most musically-gifted youth.
The Wheeling Central Catholic High School choir will perform from 7:30-8 p.m. The choir is under the direction of J. Matthew White, who also accompanies the group. This event will feature secular and religious Christmas music.
Members of the Wheeling Park High School bluegrass band will begin at 8 p.m. Under the guidance of Bob Turbanic, the group has been a long-standing institution at Wheeling Park and has performed all across the area over the years. The band carries on a tradition of celebrating Appalachian music and culture.
Third Friday coordinator Sean Decker said the event provides “an amazing opportunity to bring both these schools and the greater Wheeling community together in the spirit of the holiday.”
Open mic will take place from 9-10 p.m., concluding the events. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. All proceeds from the evening’s donations will go to the two schools’ music programs.
Surrounding the musicians and guests in the Studio Gallery is the work of artists who have joined Artworks during the past year. In the North Gallery, the artwork of students from Martins Ferry Middle and High schools is featured for the month of December.
