Ladies for Liberty Set To Perform at Next Lunch With Books in Wheeling
Remember “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Shoo Shoo Baby” and “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree?”
World War II was a time when the spirit of patriotism ran high in America, and that spirit was reflected in the music of that era. The Andrew Sisters, in particular, brought a spark of relief and joy, which helped to lighten the load for the American soldier as well as the folks back home.
Ladies for Liberty is a singing troupe dedicated to performing the Andrews Sisters-style of music through their own rendition of vocals, costumes, hairstyles and the spirit of patriotism reminiscent of the 1940s. “Bei Mir Bist du Schoen,” “Oh, Johnny, Oh!” and “Lullaby of Broadway” are just a few of the songs in their musical repertoire that the Ladies for Liberty will share at noon on Tuesday at Lunch With Books at the Ohio County Public Library. This program will be sure to bring back old memories for a few and establish new ones for all.
Lunch With Books programs are free and open to the public. Attendees are welcome to bring a bag lunch and complimentary beverages are provided. Call the Ohio County Public Library at 304-232-0244 or visit the library’s website at www.ohiocountylibrary.org for more information.
The Ohio County Public Library will be closed on Wednesday next week in observance of Independence Day. Normal library hours will resume Thursday.
