WSO Summons ‘Superheroes!’ to the Capitol

Wheeling Symphony Orchestra to deliver action-packed concert tonight

WHEELING — Wheeling Symphony Orchestra (WSO) announces the next concert of the 2018-19 season, Superheroes! with guest vocalists Megan Pachecano and Colin Eaton, conducted by Music Director Finalist Silas Huff. The performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at the Capitol Theatre in Wheeling, WV.

Grab your capes and suits for an action-packed program with the WSO! Including themes from Superman, Spider-Man, the Incredibles, Captain America, The Dark Knight, and The Avengers series, this concert also features a special tribute to our real-life heroes – the men and women of the US armed forces. So, join the WSO as we celebrate your favorite superheroes!

Silas Nathaniel Huff is a conductor, composer, and U.S. Army Music Officer, currently acting as Music Director of the Astoria Symphony Orchestra (NYC), Boulder Concert Band (CO), and Colorado Pops Orchestra, Director of the University of Colorado Boulder Campus Orchestra, Co-Director of the International Conducting Institute, and Staff Conductor of the International Concerto Festival. Maestro Huff has conducted outstanding orchestral, band, choral, opera, ballet, and new music performances for 15-plus years across the United States and Europe.

As a U.S. Army Music Officer, Captain Huff has conducted concerts at the White House, the U.S. Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery, the Pentagon, and at other important monuments and landmarks in Washington, D.C. A native Texan, Maestro Huff studied classical guitar, music theory, and composition at Texas State University before moving to Los Angeles where he earned a Master of Music degree in music theory and composition from UCLA. In addition to his musical career, Maestro/Captain Huff loves espresso, bicycling, and his novelist wife Taylor Morris.

“I am thrilled to be in Wheeling for the Superheroes! event,” said music director finalist and conductor, Silas Huff. “Before I started reading orchestra scores, I loved comic books, and of course the great superhero movies. On January 18, the mighty sound of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra will capture the public’s imagination in the same way as those legendary heroes. This event will also feature sounds, images, characters, and a tribute to our real life heroes – the men and women who protect us every day. You don’t want to miss this concert! You should wear a costume, too!”

Prior to the concert, patrons can purchase a pre-show dinner buffet, catered by Chef Charlie Schlegel from Ye Olde Alpha in the Capitol Theatre Ballroom starting at 6 p.m. Patrons are also encouraged to come in their favorite superhero costumes.

Immediately following the performance, the board of directors cordially invites attendees to stay for a free post-show reception with Maestro Franco and other members of the symphony orchestra.
