Ohio County Schools Stifel Summer Strings Camp Concert Tonight

The talents of the dedicated strings students of Ohio County Schools will be on display tonight at the Wheeling Park High School J.B. Chambers Performing Arts Center.

Ohio County Schools Stifel Summer Strings Camp began Monday at WPHS, and it concludes with the concert at 6 p.m. today. The camp was free to students in grades 4-12 and sponsored by the Stifel Trust.

Ohio County Schools Superintendent Dianna Vargo said the OCS Stifel Summer Strings Camp and Concert displays the effectiveness of the school system’s fine and performing arts curriculum, and they also display the talent of its students. She said fine and performing arts are an important part of the Ohio County Schools curriculum.

“The Ohio County Schools Stifel Summer Strings Camp is a fun event for the students, and it gives them the opportunity to showcase their musical ability in the J.B. Chambers Performing Arts Center for the community,” Vargo said. “The dedication of Ohio County Schools strings students and teachers is something of which we are very proud. We are thankful for the Stifel Trust for sponsoring this event.”

Ohio County Schools music instructors Ben Podolski, Melissa Potter and Kate O’Connell direct the camp. The students take the camp seriously because they are driven to learn and improve, the teachers said. The teachers also said the camp is fun for the students who get to learn and play music while being with their friends.

The concert is open to the public, and there is no cost for admission.
