WSO on the Go to Perform In the WVIH Courtroom

A Wheeling Symphony string trio will performs at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22, at WV Independence Hall, 1528 Market St., Wheeling, as part of the WSO on the Go initiative.

“WSO on the Go is a showcase for the talent of our musicians in informal, relaxed settings around the Ohio Valley,” WSO Executive Director Bruce Wheeler said. “The musicians are asked to play what they love including light classical, Broadway, tango and jazz, to get audiences thinking about the WSO in new, more approachable ways.”

The trio is made up of longtime WSO Musicians who are well known to the community: Anne Moskal, violin; Jennifer Gerhard, viola; and Jeff Mangone, bass.

The trio performs “Spring” from Antonio Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons,” “Edelweiss” from Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music,” “Habanera” from Georges Bizet’s “Carmen” and “Moon River” by Henry Mancini to name some.

Debbie Jones, site manager of Independence Hall said, “The courtroom in West Virginia Independence Hall is acoustically alive! Being able to showcase this historically important space with the beautiful music provided by the WSO makes perfect sense. We’re thrilled to be a part of this great new endeavor.”

The performance which will last approximately 45 minutes will be followed by a reception, hosted by the WSO.

The Wheeling Symphony is grateful for the sponsorship provided by: Jeremy & Jane McCamic, McKinley Carter Wealth Services, Joan & Fred Stamp, Jay Frey and Michael Hires, and an anonymous donor.

Funds raised for the WSO on the Go project allows students to be admitted free of charge.

The WSO held a kickoff party and fundraiser for the series last October at the Feisley Tree Farms in Belmont County followed by a concert at the Strand Theatre in Moundsville.

An event scheduled in Weirton was postponed in January due to inclement weather and will be rescheduled.

Tickets include the reception. For tickets or more information about the WSO on the Go performance call 304-232-6191. The courtroom is limited to the first 175 paid reservations.
