Celebrating the Piano Men of Rock ’n’ Roll

Wheeling Symphony Orchestra Presents Special Show With Jeans ’n Classics Tonight

Wheeling Symphony Orchestra’s next concert of the 2017-18 season will be Back to Back: The Music of Elton John and Billy Joel, conducted by Music Director Andre Raphel, featuring guest artist Jeans ‘n Classics. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. today, at the Capitol Theatre in Wheeling.

The 88th season of WSO celebrates the piano’s 88 keys with the music of two contemporary piano legends, Elton John & Billy Joel. Returning guest artist, Jeans ‘n Classics will sing us the songs of the piano men, including the hits “Movin’ Out,” “Always a Woman,” “Philadelphia Freedom,” “Someone Saved My Life Tonight,” “Circle of Life,” and “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.”

Jeans ‘n Classics have previously performed with the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra for a number of Pops concerts, including the Music of the Eagles, the Music of Michael Jackson, One Vision: the Music of Queen, and the Music of Abba. Formed over 20 years ago by Peter Brennan, Jeans ‘n Classics’ approach to combining world-class rock musicians and symphonies has been a game changer for orchestras in their quest to attract new and more expansive audiences. They are a group of musicians who understand orchestra culture and are committed to help in the building of younger, loyal audiences for symphony orchestras across North America.

“The Back to Back program with Jeans ‘n Classics features great tunes that have become part of the soundtrack of our lives,” said music director Andre Raphel. “The songs of Elton John and Billy Joel are timeless. From songs like ‘Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me’ to ‘Piano Man,’ it’s music that brings back memories.”

Prior to the concert, patrons can purchase a pre-show, prix fixe dinner in the Capitol Theatre Ballroom starting at 6 p.m. Immediately following the performance, attendees can attend a free post-show reception with Maestro Raphel and other members of the symphony orchestra.
