Mystery Theatre Unlimited Offers Love for Holiday

Love isn’t just in the air, but also on the water this Valentine’s Day season as Mystery Theatre Unlimited presents its original musical comedy dinner theatre production “Murder on the Luv Boat.” The production will be presented at 7 p.m. today and at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, February 17, as a benefit for Russell Nesbitt Services. Both performances will be held at River City Restaurant and Banquet Center, 14th and Main streets, Wheeling

“Murder on the Luv Boat” invites passengers to hop aboard a fabled cruise ship where lovers renew their commitments to one another — or commit a murder before the first port of call. Along the way, audience members will participate as members of the crew, enjoy broad comedy, musical parodies and attempt to solve a murder mystery. They will also enjoy a three-course dinner and compete for prizes at the end of the evening.

Among the passengers on the ship are famed and proficient romance novelist Lois Rhodes (played by Melody Meadows) with her boozy husband, Rocky (portrayed by Dustin Heavilin), and Oxblood University Professor Dexter Small (played by Butch Maxwell) with his lusty wife, Mitzi (portrayed by Meghan Ross). The Luv Boat’s Captain Boobing (played by Michael Moran) must keep mismatched couples together — or die trying!

The audience-participatory program is filled with song parodies. Several audience members will be chosen to play small parts in the show. All audience members are encouraged to gather and share clues and to question suspects. All of the characters will interact with the audience in an unscripted pre-show mingle.

The Wheeling-based ensemble has been writing and performing original comedy murder mysteries for 22 years. Performances include audience interaction and the opportunity to solve a murder mystery, along with a full dinner, and take place in a dining room, with actors moving among the tables.
