Shannon Marie McElfresh and David Carl Giovannini were united in marriage at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, Winston-Salem, N.C., with the Rev. Brian Cook officiating the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Dawn McElfresh of Winston-Salem and the late Edward McElfresh. She is the granddaughter of the late Donald and Pauline McGreal of Wheeling.
The groom is the son of Joe and Kathy Giovannini of Hickory, N.C.
The bride was escorted by Andy Monk.
Lisa Monk was matron of honor. Scott Talbert served as best man.
Other attendants were Sarah Giovannini, sister of the groom; Lindsay Davis; Sarah Wicklund; Colleen Bowker; Brian Giovannini, brother of the groom; Michael Giovannini, brother of the groom; Ryan McElfresh, brother of the bride; Jake Verbiest; Campbell Monk and Canaan Monk.
A reception was held at Bermuda Run Country Club, Advance, N.C.
The bride is a 2008 graduate with honors from North Carolina State University with dual degrees in biomedical engineering and textile engineering. She works as a process engineer in Columbia, S.C.
The groom is a 2008 graduate with honors from North Carolina State University with a degree in textile engineering. He is attending the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia.
The couple resides in Columbia.
