Coverlet Commemorates Marshall County Railroad
A fifth version of a commemorative coverlet, first issued in 1996, is now on sale by the Rosby’s Rock Foundation. Local historian Dorothy Sedosky did the design.
The coverlet commemorates the railroad in Marshall County and the completion of the B&O Railroad track between Wheeling and Baltimore at Rosby’s Rock Dec. 24, 1854. This milestone created prosperity for all the small communities along the tracks including Rosby’s Rock and Glen Easton.
Improvements in other forms of transportation and the invention of the automobile, in the 20th century eventually led to less railroad travel and the decline in the prosperity of these towns.
The first commemorative coverlet is designed to capture the history and spirit of Rosby’s Rock. It depicts the community from 1900 to the present.
The current version is woven in the color combination of green, beige and red. Orders can be made by calling Sedosky at 304-845-2701 and are available as Christmas gifts.
