Two New Groups Targeted for H1N1

Two new target groups are being offered the swine, or H1N1, flu vaccine at the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department.

Clinics are scheduled to start Nov. 16 for people 25-64 years old with chronic medical conditions and people who care for children 6 months old and younger.

The clinics will be held every Monday and Thursday from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. at the health department, first floor of the City-County Building, 1500 Chapline St., Wheeling. Appointments must be made by calling 304-234-3682.

Administrator Howard Gamble said the health department decided to do ongoing clinics for the two target groups because they did not believe there would be enough vaccine to do a mass clinic.

Also, there currently is more nasal vaccine than injectable, and nasal vaccine is not recommended for people with chronic illnesses.

”Our best option was to do the rolling clinic by appointment. … This will allow us to get people in here now,” Gamble said.
