County Seeks Pollworkers

The Ohio County voter registration office is seeking additional pollworkers for the upcoming special election for governor.

Election Day is May 14, and early voting will take place throughout West Virginia beginning April 29 through May 11.

Toni Chieffalo, Ohio County elections coordinator, said she presently has enough pollworkers for early voting and to work the polls on Election Day.

A total of five pollworkers are required for work at each of the county’s 39 precincts – a total of 195.

But Chieffalo would like to have as many as 15 extra pollworkers in the event they would need to be called to fill in May 14. Those interested in training to be a pollworker must register for an upcoming poll school in Ohio County, and should contact Chieffalo at the voter registration office at 304-234-3750.

Chieffalo said all the voting machines that will be used in the election have been tested and are ready for voters.

The last day that those not presently registered to vote can register to vote in the May 14 special election is April 25.

That is also the last day West Virginia residents may make changes to their voter registration.

Those registered as Independents for the election have the option of requesting either a Democratic or Republican ballot. But the Independent voter must tell the pollworker their choice, as they will not be asked which ballot they desire.
