Rep. McKinley To Host Town Hall on Aug. 23
Rep. David B. McKinley will host a town hall meeting in Wheeling next week.
The event is slated for 7 p.m. Aug. 23 at West Virginia Northern Community College in the main auditorium on the first floor. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
“Town hall meetings and roundtable discussions are where I get a real sense of what issues and challenges are facing my constituents,” said McKinley, R-W.Va. “These meetings allow me the chance to feel the pulse of a community by listening and responding to their concerns.
“We have conducted town halls in all 20 counties in the 1st Congressional District. I value any opportunity to get out of the Beltway and hear what my constituents care about. I will continue to be accessible and available for the people I represent, so I can fight for them in Washington,” he added.
During his town hall meetings, McKinley welcomes attendees and gives a brief congressional update, followed by questions from the audience that are submitted on note cards and chosen at random. He last held a town hall in Wheeling on Aug. 9, 2011.
McKinley plans additional town hall meetings in the 1st District throughout September and October, but these events are still being developed according to Jim Forbes, spokesman for McKinley.
Throughout the year, McKinley also conducts telephone town hall meetings.
“Telephone town halls have been overwhelmingly successful with tens of thousands of constituents participating since we began conducting them,” Forbes said. “The sessions last an hour, and participants have the chance to ask questions on any topic. Typically, the questions cover a wide range of topics.”
