Suspect Sought in Hit-and-Run Death

Ohio State Highway Patrol investigators have a suspect in a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian on U.S. 40.

Jason Cattane, 31, of Maynard died after apparently being struck by a passing vehicle late Tuesday or early Wednesday. His body was found near the entrance to the Ebbert farm by a teenager who had gone out for a run just prior to 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The patrol said a suspect has been identified and evidence collected and processed. The suspect’s name was not released Wednesday, however, as the patrol is turning the case over to the Belmont County Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the patrol, the Belmont County Sheriff’s Department received a call around 6 a.m. Wednesday regarding a body lying on the side of the road near North Ebbert Road. Deputies and state troopers responded and found the man deceased along the highway.

Emergency personnel from Cumberland Trail Fire Department also responded. A crash reconstructionist and investigators from the patrol’s Cambridge District Headquarters assisted in processing evidence.

Belmont County Coroner Troy Balgo and his assistant, Jack Morgan, also were called to the site of the crash.
