Vigil in Remembrance Of Murder Victims Planned
Family and friends of murder victims are invited to the Murder Victim Day of Remembrance and Candlelight Vigil at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The sixth annual event is organized by Sharon Parker, victim/witness coordinator at the Ohio County Prosecutor’s Office, and will be held at Wheeling Heritage Port. While the vigil can become very emotional for the families, it also gives them an opportunity to meet with other people going through the same pain.
Those who attend can talk about their family member or friend and show support for others who are suffering the loss of a loved one. People are invited to talk, sing a song or read a poem during the gathering, which includes a candlelight vigil at dusk.
Past vigils have allowed people to exchange phone numbers and email addresses, to communicate with someone who understands what they are going through.
The event typically includes recognition of law enforcement who have worked on past cases. And once again this year, quilt squares will be collected for the formation of another quilt. On display will be the quilts made from photos and pictures donated by families in the past.
