Man Cuts Self, Smears Blood on Woman

Police say Shaka Jeter was distraught over a woman when he broke into her home Thursday night, cut himself with a razor blade and smeared his blood over her face.

Brooke County Magistrate Robin Snyder arraigned Jeter Friday on charges of nighttime burglary and second-offense domestic battery. The 24-year-old Weirton resident had yet to post $25,000 bond late Friday and remained in the Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville.

Weirton police arrived at a Weir Avenue home around 8:30 p.m. Thursday in response to a report of a man cutting himself. A woman ran from the residence, followed by Jeter, who police say was suffering from a large, bloody gash to his neck.

The woman reportedly told officers that Jeter kicked the door to the residence, causing the frame to break. Jeter then entered the home and allegedly grabbed the woman, who was sitting down to eat dinner with her two teenage sons, and forced her onto the couch in a different room.

According to court documents, Jeter gave the woman four choices: “she could take him back, she could watch him kill himself, she could have him sent back to jail or she could move far away.”

Jeter brandished a razor blade, but the woman and one of her sons persuaded Jeter not to injure himself, with the woman reportedly begging, “Please don’t do this in front of the children.”

But Jeter again brandished the razor blade and cut himself. He then “grabbed (the alleged victim) by the face and was saying something about wanting her to feel his blood. … Shaka then started rubbing his blood all over (her) face,” court documents state.

While the woman had Jeter convinced she was going to get him a towel, she told her two children to lock themselves in the bathroom and call police.

Emergency personnel treated Jeter’s injuries at the scene before officers transported him to jail.

A preliminary hearing in the case had not yet been scheduled late Friday. Jeter advised the court he would retain a defense attorney.
