School Lockdown Lifted After Armed Man Nabbed

Jefferson Elementary School was temporarily locked down Friday after a man wearing a ski mask and carrying a bow and arrows was seen walking back and forth in front of the school.

After a caller contacted Belmont County 911, officers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Belmont County Sheriff’s Department, Bridgeport, Bellaire and Shadyside police departments descended on the scene. Law enforcement quickly located and arrested a suspect, who was taken to the county jail.

Officials declined to release the suspect’s name Friday. The suspect was charged with inducing panic and having weapons under disability.
