City Budget Includes Pay Raises

City employees in Moundsville can look forward to a pay raise in fiscal 2013-14, according to information about the proposed operating budget released by City Manager Deanna Hess on Thursday.

“It’s going to be an increase across the board,” Mayor Eugene Saunders said after a special meeting of City Council. “It’s been a while since the last pay increase.”

Saunders said all city workers will receive about a 3-percent pay hike.

The 2013-14 budget message showed balanced projected revenues and expenditures of $5.96 million for the city’s General Fund. Meanwhile, projected revenue for the Coal Severance Fund is $57,336 with plans to expend that amount.

“These estimates reflect a balanced budget for the 2013-2014 fiscal year,” the budget message states.

The city manager’s office said anticipated revenues for the city are projected to increase by more than $160,000 over the current year’s estimate, and they remain optimistic the trend will continue. While the 2013-14 budget shows salary and capital expenditure increases, it does not show any increase or decrease in the city’s work force or the benefits offered to city employees.

“The work force is remaining level,” Saunders said.

Services to residents will remain the same as well.

The proposed budget is available on request at the Moundsville City Clerk’s Office in the Municipal Building at 800 Sixth St., Monday through Friday.
