Four Write-Ins Vying for Council Seat

Four write-in candidates are seeking the 4th Ward council seat in Wellsburg’s upcoming municipal election, set for June 11.

Contested races also are taking place for police chief, as well as for council seats in the 1st and 2nd wards.

Early voting for the election starts Wednesday in Wellsburg, according to City Recorder Mary Blum. Voting will take place at the city building from 2-4 p.m. each weekday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 1, and Saturday, June 8.

On Election Day, polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Despite the number of contested races in Wellsburg, Blum noted there hasn’t been much evidence of the upcoming election.

“This is the most quiet election we’ve had in years,” she said. “Yes, we do (have contested races), but nobody has any signs out – maybe a few for the police chief’s race.”

Incumbent Police Chief Stanley Kins is being challenged by Rudy Sovinski.

Candidates for council in the 1st Ward are Bruce Hunter and David Holden. In the 2nd Ward, candidates are Brian Tennant and Ron E. Michaux.

Officials write-in candidates in the 4th Ward are Charles Harris, Janet P. Knox, Virginia Mae McAfee and Mark Williams.

Mayor Sue Simonetti, Treasurer Francine Kraus and 3rd Ward council candidate Thomas R. Diserio are all running unopposed.
