Lowe’s Lauded for Support Of Black Heritage Festival

The Ohio Valley Black Heritage Festival Committee is recognizing Lowe’s for annually holding workshops for children during the festival’s Family Fun Day.

Committee member Joyce Brooks presented Lowe’s of Wheeling Assistant Manager Jeff Billman with an award thanking the store for its support. Jill Krumski, a Wheeling Lowe’s employee, also accepted the same award on behalf of the St. Clairsville Lowe’s.

”I like how they tailor it to children and encourage them to get handy at an early age,” Brooks said of the workshops.

She noted that depending on how many children participate, the program can last one to two hours. Brooks said the youth enjoy the hands-on activities that involve building something, such as a birdhouse.

This year’s festival is slated from 2-9 p.m. June 30 at Wheeling’s Heritage Port.

Festival entertainment will include local gospel groups in addition to the Trumpets of Joy from Aliquippa, Pa., African drummer Baoku Moses from Senegal Africa and his Image Afro-Beat Band, as well as the soul band The Total Package of Youngstown, Ohio.
