Village Plans First Kick-Off Day
Free carnival rides, face painting, a movie and more all will be offered Saturday in the village of Brookside.
The village’s first Summer Kick-Off Day begins at 8 a.m. and includes 38 different yard sales for people to browse. Sponsored by the Brookside Park District Board, the all-day event also will feature a rummage sale at the Bridgeport Church of God, 859 National Road; a large craft/vendor sale at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 56381 National Road; business sidewalk sales; food vendors and nonprofit organizations along U.S. 40; an open house and tour at the Brookside Fire Department, 875 National Road; and 50/50 raffles and an auction at the firehouse.
From 2-6 p.m. there will be free carnival rides and games beside Payless Shoes, 906 National Road. An animal area for pony rides and a petting zoo will be located at 870 National Road and a reptile show at 898 National Road. Clowns with balloons and face painting will be featured, along with music by a disc jockey and a children’s ride from 6-9 p.m. behind the Bridgeport Church of God.
An outdoor cartoon movie, ”Legends of the Guardians,” will be shown about 9 p.m. behind the Church of God.
Free parking will be available, along with rest stops and bathroom facilities. The event will be held rain or shine and event maps are available at a welcome center being set up at Bridgeport Auto Parts, 890 National Road. For more information, call Patti Millard at 740-633-0674.
”The park committee is just becoming active, and we wanted to bring the community together. Brookside is such a nice area, but everybody is invited,” Millard said.
Board members include Allan Ketzell, Cora West and Millard, and committee members include Terra Moscato and Margaret Lipperman.
Millard noted Bridgeport football and park board T-shirts also will be on sale during the event.
