State EMA Meetings Coming Tuesday
Emergency managers from across the state will converge on Wheeling Tuesday for the annual West Virginia Emergency Management Conference.
The three-day event, sponsored by the West Virginia Emergency Management Council, is scheduled to be held Tuesday-Thursday at Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack, said Tom Hart, Marshall County Emergency Management Agency director.
Hart said he and Ohio County’s emergency manager, Lou Vargo, pitched to the state council the idea of having the conference in Wheeling.
”This is the first time the conference will be held here in the Northern Panhandle,” Hart said. ”It brings in emergency managers from across the state and allows them to network and share experiences.”
The conference will help emergency managers fulfill their annual 48-hour training requirement. In classroom-style settings, it will focus on responses to various incidents and disasters including remnants of Hurricane Sandy last year. The conference will kick off with a directors’ meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday. It continues from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and wraps up at noon Thursday.
