City To Dedicate Memorial
The village of Bethlehem is scheduled to dedicate a new war memorial honoring those who fought in and are fighting the War on Terror.
Mayor Garrett ”Rhett” Daniel said he came up with the idea after realizing there were no local memorials honoring those who have served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars fought during the past 10 years.
The dedication is slated for 7 p.m. Saturday at Community Park. The memorial, which already has been erected, is located beside the park’s Vietnam memorial situated near the park’s miniature golf course.
During the ceremony, Daniel said local veterans are expected to speak including Wheeling resident Michael Novotney, an Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran. Daniel said the memorial was made possible by donations from individuals and the Ohio County Commission. It cost about $14,000 and includes scenes such as mountains, an F-15, a Humvee and a soldier.
