Friendly City Falls Behind In Park Votes
With less than two weeks remaining in PetSafe’s “Bark for Your Park” online voting contest, Wheeling could still win $25,000 to help build its very own dog park – but a strong challenge from the community of Auburn, N.Y., is making it more important than ever for supporters to keep on voting.
The competition’s grand prize is $100,000, but four additional $25,000 prizes go to the top vote recipient among small, medium and large cities as well as the community whose vote total is highest compared to its population.
Wheeling had been holding steady in third place overall – and at the head of the pack among medium cities. However, Auburn, N.Y. pulled ahead of Wheeling as of a 10 p.m. Friday tally of votes.
To vote, visit www.petsafe.net. You can vote twice daily – once there and once via PetSafe’s Facebook page.
Voters should keep in mind that on Fridays, they can earn Wheeling an additional seven votes through the weekly “7-Vote Sniff-Out,” which involves finding and correctly answering a question hidden somewhere on PetSafe’s website. This must be done prior to voting, however, for the extra votes to count.
Voting ends July 26, with winners to be announced July 31. The preferred location for Wheeling’s dog park is a strip of land along Wheeling Heritage Trail in Elm Grove, across Interstate 470 from the J.B. Chambers Youth Sports Complex.
