The West Virginia Division of Highways will begin repaving a 6-mile stretch of Interstate 70 Monday evening, and motorists are cautioned to be aware of lane restrictions and changing traffic patterns.
Project limits are the eastbound lanes beginning at milepost 8 near the bottom of Two-Mile Hill and continuing all the way to the Pennsylvania state line.
No work will be done in the westbound lanes.
Traffic will be restricted to a single, 11-foot-wide lane during work hours, which will be from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. every day, including weekends.
Work will consist of rotomilling the existing pavement, installing new asphalt on the base and exposed roadway, new guardrails and road shoulders, as well as new pavement markings.
Some drainage work will take place during daylight hours but should not affect traffic flow, according to the DOH.
Drivers are advised to watch for informational signs and changing traffic patterns, and to allow extra time when traveling through the project area.
The DOH’s contractor for the $3.7 million project is Kelly Paving Inc., of Williamstown, W.Va. The project is expected to be completed by Oct. 28, but inclement weather could affect the work schedule.
Kelly Paving also was the contractor who paved an 8.7-mile stretch of I-70’s westbound lanes from the Pennsylvania state line to exit 5 in Elm Grove in 2011.
