Open House Set At GOP HQ
The Belmont County Republican Party has a new headquarters in downtown St. Clairsville, and the public is invited there later this month for an open house.
The event is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. July 16 at the new headquarters, which is located at 207 W. Main St. in St. Clairsville, across from the Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home.
Kent Moore, chairman of the Belmont County Republican Party, said the open house will be a casual event focused on family fun. While local politicians have been invited to participate, there will be no speeches.
“It will be a chance for people to bring their families and kids and take a look at what we have,” he said. “It will be a chance to mingle and talk to elected officials.”
The Belmont County GOP headquarters was located for the past six years at the former Cherry Tree Toys building in Belmont. But this spring, party leaders decided a change was needed, Moore continued.
“We thought this location was more centrally located and accessible to folks,” he said. “When it became available, we took advantage.”
The Belmont County GOP holds its monthly meetings at its headquarters, and the building also serves as home to the county party’s women’s club and young Republican organizations.
In the past, the Belmont County GOP headquarters also has served as a centralized hub for Republican get-out-the-vote operations in East Ohio. Its Belmont building housed a large phone bank from which volunteers contacted registered voters.
Moore believes the new facility will likely serve a similar purpose for the Ohio GOP. For now, he said he and party leaders are looking toward the 2014 election.
“I know this is an off-year for elections, but elections are constant anymore,” he noted. “You have to stay on your toes or get left behind.
