Overpasses Closed for Work

A long-term project to replace a pair of overpasses on Ohio 7 is under way, and already traffic patterns have changed and road closures that will last months are in effect.

The Ohio Department of Transportation began working last month to replace the spans that carry Ohio 7 over Gladys Avenue just north of Georges Run, as well as the bridge over McClister Avenue just south of Logan Avenue.

Shelly & Sands Inc. of Zanesville, Ohio, is the contractor for both projects. The cost to replace the Gladys Avenue overpass is $1.7 million, while it will cost $2.55 million to replace the McClister Avenue overpass.

Work on both bridges should be completed by May, according to ODOT.

The northbound entrance ramp from Ohio 151 to Ohio 7 has been closed since the project began last month. Drivers are being re-routed to the Commercial Avenue entrance ramp.

The northbound exit to Logan Avenue has been closed since Friday and is expected to remain closed for the next four months. Drivers can use the Murdock Avenue exit immediately before the Logan Avenue off-ramp, or continue north to the Lincoln Avenue exit and return south on Ohio 7.

On Wednesday, crews were removing the pavement in the northbound lanes above Gladys Avenue.

One lane of traffic was maintained in each direction in the southbound lanes with portable concrete barriers.

The traffic pattern was the same above McClister Avenue that day, although workers had not yet begun removing the pavement.
