Accident Victim’s Memory Kept Alive by Memorial Golf Tourney
The year’s Heather Miller Memorial Golf Classic raised more than $5,000 for Wheeling Park High School students who plan to pursue a career in nursing after high school.
Heather Miller was a 2004 graduate of Wheeling Park High School who died of injuries received in an automobile crash in March 2008. She was supposed to graduate from the West Virginia University School of Nursing six weeks later.
Later in 2008, the Heather Miller Memorial Golf Classic was founded in Heather’s honor to raise funds for WPHS graduates following the same career path she dreamed of, her mother Jody Miller said.
“This is a way to continue her legacy and it is also a way of giving back to Ohio County Schools and our community,” Miller said. “What she learned there inspired her to pursue a career in nursing.”
According to information from Ohio County Schools, the Ohio County Schools Foundation has received more than $30,000 from the annual golf tournament in the past five years.
Foundation President Jen Short thanked this year’s organizers for their continued support.
She said the contributions are a tremendous benefit to Wheeling Park High School students who plan to pursue a career in nursing.
