Mucci Holds On To Office
Steubenville voters re-elected Democrat Mayor Domenick Mucci Jr. to a new term during Tuesday’s election, as he bested challengers Republican Lou Arrico and write-in candidate Dawud Abdullah.
According to unofficial results that showed just over 30 percent of Jefferson County’s registered voters heading to the ballot box, Mucci garnered 1,411 votes. Arrico finished in second place with 1,250 votes, while Abdullah collected 120 tallies.
A jubilant Mucci said late Tuesday he was honored and pleased “with the vote of confidence from the residents of Steubenville.”
“I am looking forward to working with the new city manager when that person is chosen by the city council. We have much to do in our city and I am ready for the work,” Mucci said.
In Mingo Junction, voters chose Adam Peeler and George R. Irvin Jr. to represent them in two village council seats by giving them 635 votes and 436 votes, respectively. John Fabian came up just short with 410 tallies, while Andy Strohmeyer received 149.
In Wintersville, voters elected Bob Merriman, Robert Martin Sr., Ralph Parissi Jr. and Jason Mattern to the four village council seats up for grabs, while they rejected Matt Parise. Merriman got 635 votes; Martin Sr. tallied 579; Parissi Jr. took 541; Mattern got 539; and Parise finished with 256.
Kristine Prati will serve as mayor of Tiltonsville after collecting 163 votes. Joseph Zeroski finished in second place with 124 votes, while Jason Staskey got 99.
Adena elected Justin Dudzik as mayor over Carol Bednar by giving him 137 votes, compared to 87 votes.
In Rayland, voters supported Brenda Staats, Clarice Bibbo, Todd Heitz and Carolyn Tolonese as their new village council members. Staats led the way with 96 votes, compared to 85 for Bibbo, 85 for Heitz and 84 for Tolonese. Others collecting votes but failing to gain election were Evelyn Burley with 67 votes, Leigh Ann Sabo with 63 votes, and Andrea Jenkins with 40 tallies.
Voters also approved a number of community levies that appeared on Tuesday’s ballot.
