Ohio Valley Honors Its Veterans With Observances

The following Veterans Day observances are planned throughout the Ohio Valley:

— America Legion Post 1 and Wheeling Elks Lodge 28 will hold a free spaghetti dinner for veterans. Dinner will be served from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at American Legion Post 1 at 86 16th St. in Wheeling. The meal will be free to all veterans, and a $5 donation is requested for family members and guests. For more information call Post 1 at 304-219-2001.

— St. Michael Parish School in Wheeling will host a Veterans Day service at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the church featuring vocalists Rosie and Connie Pitts, and Shaney Faini. Keynote speaker will be the Rev. Dennis Schuelkens Jr. This event is open to the general public.

— St. Vincent de Paul Parish School in Wheeling will be providing a service for veterans at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Parish Church located at 2244 Marshall Ave. in Elm Grove.

Chief Warrant Officer Ty Miller, a UH-60 Black Hawk Instructor for the West Virginia Army National Guard and the father of four of the students, will be our special guest speaker.

— The Wheeling Veterans Day service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at WesBanco Arena. Ohio County Commissioner Orphy Klempa will be the featured speaker. American Legion Posts 1 and 89 will be represented along with the U.S. Marine Auxiliary, the Wheeling Elks and others. All are welcome.

— Veterans Day services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Brooke County Veterans Memorial Park at Brooke Hills Park on Washington Pike in Wellsburg. The program will be conducted by the Brooke County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Bald Eagle Shelter.

— A community veterans service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 141 Kruger St., Wheeling.

Patriotic music will be provided by the Wheeling Park High School Music Department. Ice cream and cookie social to follow. For more information, call 304-242-3466.

— The Bellaire Middle School Veterans Day Assembly will be held at 1 p.m. Monday. Refreshments will be served in the cafeteria after the assembly. The program is open to the public. The media writing class is in charge of the assembly.
