Suspect in Robbery Of Quick Stop Sought

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a suspect following an armed robbery at Phillies Quick Stop in Newell on Thursday.

Hancock County 911 received a call at 7:12 p.m. from a woman advising there had been a robbery at gunpoint at the store.

Sheriff Ralph Fletcher said a male subject entered Phillies Quick Stop, located at 106 Washington St., at approximately 7:06 p.m., allegedly produced a small handgun and demanded money from the clerk.

Fletcher said the suspect is believed to be a white male dressed in all dark clothing, including a dark, hooded sweatshirt, toboggan hat, dark sunglasses and a bandanna over his nose and mouth.

“The subject removed approximately $500 in cash from the drawer and exited the building heading north across the parking lot,” Fletcher said.

Once deputies canvassed the area, Fletcher said evidence was found indicating the suspect changed direction and headed south on Coolidge Street.

Fletcher said the matter is under investigation and while there is no reason to believe the armed robbery in November and the recent incident are related at this time, the Sheriff’s Office is not ruling out any possibilities.

Any information regarding either incident can be reported to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office at 304-564-3911 or 304-564-4100.
