Mortakis Charged With Theft Of Truck
Michael Anthony Mortakis Jr., 18, of Wheeling was arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing a truck from an automobile dealership in Martins Ferry.
According to court records, a state police trooper was traveling south on W.Va. 2 and observed a red Ford Ranger traveling slowly in the fast lane. The officer stopped the truck and identified the driver as Mortakis, who admitted he was driving without a driver’s license. Mortakis reportedly told the officer the truck belonged to a friend of his father. According to documents, the officer detected marijuana smoke in the vehicle and Mortakis admitted he and the three passengers in the vehicle had smoked marijuana earlier that day.
Officers discovered the truck was registered to a resident in Martins Ferry and had been reported stolen the same morning from a Martins Ferry automobile dealership.
Mortakis was charged with grand larceny, bringing into state, receiving or disposing of property stolen in another state, entry to a building other than a dwelling and giving false information to an officer. Bond was set at $15,000.
