Whitfield Charged With Choking Juvenile

Thomas Joshua Whitfield, 36, was arrested Monday for allegedly choking and striking a juvenile in his home on Sallys Back Bone Road in Glen Easton.

Whitfield was charged with child abuse resulting in injury. Bond was set at $15,000.

According to court documents, the alleged victim met with officers Jan. 19 at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department where officers observed bruises and scratches on the boy’s face. The report states the boy also had bloodshot eyes and swelling around his throat, jaw and eyes.

The alleged victim’s mother stated the boy had come to her home with marks on his face and clothes covered with blood from his nose after visiting Whitfield. The boy said he and Whitfield got into an argument when Whitfield “turned violent” and shoved the boy down on a couch. When the boy tried to stand up, Whitfield allegedly shoved him again and began choking him to keep him down. The boy said he started kicking Whitfield to stop choking him and was then hit in the jaw, brow, cheek and nose. Whitfield reportedly stopped when the boy’s nose began bleeding.

A preliminary hearing is set for 10:30 a.m. Feb. 14.
